More Cooking Classes Photos

Above are some photos of more cooking classes that took place at the Resource Center. We're sad to report though, that these classes will soon come to an end. There was not the interest in these classes that we had anticipated. We do appreciate Niall taking the time and effort to teach the classes that were held. We will be re-evaluating to see how the Resource Center can be better used to help the older children that have aged-out of the orphanages.

These children recently received packages with clothing from their sponsors. They are always happy to hear from their sponsors. It means so much to them to know that some one is thinking of them, that someone cares. Thank you Barb, Ken, and Susan!

One of the purposes of the Resource Center is to help the children who have "graduated" from the orphanage with Life Skills that will be useful to them. A few of the older children had expressed a desire to learn how to cook, as this was an area they struggled with upon leaving the orphanage and being on their own.

When we were in Petropavlovsk this summer, we met with some of the Peace Corps Workers and told them about the Resource Center for the older children.

Niall suggested a "Cooking Class" and volunteered to teach it. Niall is a good cook too! (We sampled some of his cinnamon rolls.) He is also good at preparing meals on a limited budget with the resources available there. Since these children are on limited budgets too, these classes will be very helpful for them.

We think that word will spread and even more students will be at the next "Cooking Class!" That they get to eat the finished products is a plus! Some of the students attend the University in Petropavlovsk, and others are attending other colleges or trade schools in the area. The ones that attended the first Cooking Class, really seemed to enjoy it!

October 2009 Siblings Reunion

This was the first Siblings Reunion of the 2009-2010 school year. Siblings separated and living at three different orphanages (Poludino Preschool Orphanage, Sokolovka Orphange, and the Regional Boarding School Orphanage in Petropavlovsk) were reunited for a few hours on October 12, 2009. Thanks to donations from Antares Foundation sponsors, these siblings were able to spend some special time together. You can see their happiness and joy in the photos!

Due to sad circumstances in their lives, these children are living in orphanages. It is even sadder that siblings are separated. Sometimes it is simply due to their age. Other times it is due to their behavior or education level. Whatever the reason, they miss their siblings! They cherish the time together during these sibling reunions.

September 1st was "First Bell" (Back-to-school!) for the children of Kazakhstan.
