Help Diana!

Diana is a 14 year old girl with Type I diabetes. When we visited the orphanages in Kazakhstan last September, we were upset to discover that Diana was in the hospital in a diabetic coma, and it was not the first time. The Antares Medical program was started and in November Diana came to the US where she received treatment. At the end of December she returned to KZ with a treatment plan, donated insulin and test strips for her meter. That supply of insulin and test strips has been depleted.

The type of insulin she is using is not readily available in Kazakhstan. Because the insulin must be refrigerated, it is not possible to ship this to Petropavlovsk. Recently a family traveling to Petropavlovsk agreed to hand-carry, in a special insulated pack, more insulin and test strips for Diana. Many thanks to Pat, Kim, and Anna Zomer for doing this.



Diabetes is a chronic condition. Diana will need insulin the rest of her live to help her control her diabetes. The average cost of her diabetic supplies is $15 per day.


Currently the Medical Program is on hold as far as bringing children to the US for treatment; for guidelines and procedures to be better developed, and liability and insurance issues to be researched. However, the Medical Program continues to help Diana receive the on-going treatment she needs.
